Fatalities from Chemical Explosion at Telangana Factory Climb to 40

(MENAFN) The death toll from a catastrophic explosion at a chemical factory in Telangana's southern region has surged to 40 as of Wednesday.

The deadly blast rocked the Pashamylaram industrial zone in Sangareddy district on Monday.

Sigachi Industries, the company operating the facility, has announced a compensation package of 10 million Indian Rupees (approximately 116,645 U.S. dollars) for each victim's family.

In addition, at least 33 individuals were injured in the explosion, with several reported to be in critical condition. The death toll is expected to rise as recovery efforts continue.

A search for missing individuals remains ongoing, with 143 workers present at the site when the blast occurred. Some workers were fortunate to escape without injury.

Sigachi Industries clarified that the explosion was not linked to a reactor malfunction and confirmed that the plant would remain closed for 90 days while the government investigates the incident.
