Authorities Conclude Probe Into Tainted Alcohol Deaths, Case Sent To Criminal Court
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, July 1 (Petra) - - Authorities said Tuesday that no new cases of methanol poisoning have been reported in the past 24 hours, and that the spike in hospitalizations on Monday was linked to a single event in the Deir Alla district last Friday.
A total of 32 people sought hospital care after consuming contaminated alcoholic beverages during that gathering, a spokesperson for the Public Security Department said.
The investigation into the incident has now been completed, and case files have been referred to the public prosecutor at the Grand Criminal Court.
Authorities confirmed that all products from the implicated factory have been pulled from the market in coordination with the Jordan Food and Drug Administration. No new deaths have been recorded, and the current death toll stands at nine, with 47 others still under treatment. Three individuals tested negative for methanol exposure and were released.
The spokesperson stressed that all reported cases so far are linked to the same batch of adulterated alcohol consumed at Friday's event.
