Rubio Criticizes Iranian Threats
(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio strongly criticized Iran’s recent calls for the arrest and execution of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, labeling the rhetoric as "unacceptable," according to statements released on Saturday.
Rubio, writing on the social platform X, reaffirmed American backing for the IAEA’s vital inspection and oversight operations within Iran.
"We support the lAEA's critical verification and monitoring efforts in Iran and commend the Director General and the lAEA for their dedication and professionalism," he posted.
The Secretary of State emphasized that Washington urges Tehran to ensure the protection and well-being of the IAEA staff operating within the country.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that Grossi would be barred from accessing Iranian territory.
In remarks quoted by an Iranian national news agency, Araghchi stated: “We will not allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to install cameras at our nuclear sites, and the agency’s chief will be banned from entering the country.”
