Ankara Urges Permanent Deal Between Iran And US, Says Turkish FM
Ankara is closely monitoring regional developments and encourages a peaceful agreement between Iran and the United States, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Saturday, June 28, Fidan stated that Turkey is actively engaged in regional diplomacy and often plays a mediating role in conflicts across the Middle East.
According to Fidan, the best course of action for both Turkey and the broader region is to prevent new wars and bring existing conflicts to an end.“It is in the interest of our country and our region that no new wars break out and current wars are brought to a close,” he emphasized.
Fidan expressed that both Tehran and Washington have shown interest in pursuing negotiations, and European powers are also keen to see continued dialogue with Iran.
However, Fidan issued a stark warning about the potential for renewed hostilities between Iran and Israel. He stressed that the entire region must remain on high alert, as an outbreak of war between the two would not only impact the involved parties but also destabilize neighboring countries and beyond.
“The consequences of a war between Iran and Israel would be widespread and deeply affect the entire region,” said Fidan, urging all sides to exercise restraint and commit to diplomatic solutions rather than military escalation.
In parallel developments, Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, remarked that the U.S. President Donald Trump must cease disrespecting Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, if Washington is serious about reaching an agreement with Tehran.“The people of Iran will not allow their destiny to be dictated by foreign powers,” he declared.
The Turkish government's emphasis on mediation and diplomacy underscores its broader regional strategy aimed at stability. With increasing tensions, especially between Iran and Israel, Turkey's call for calm is both timely and significant.
As the geopolitical landscape remains fragile, the willingness of key players to engage in negotiations may determine whether the region moves toward conflict or coexistence. International actors, including the European Union and the United Nations, may need to reinforce diplomatic frameworks to ensure sustainable peace in the Middle East.
