Heavy Rains, Flooding And Landslides Likely In KP As Met Office Issues Alert

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of potential flash floods and landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the province braces for intense weather conditions in the coming days.

According to the Met Office, most districts in KP are expected to experience hot, humid, and partly cloudy weather today, with severe heat anticipated in the plains.

However, upper, central, and southern parts of the province could see thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and rain.

The weather advisory highlights a high probability of rain and windstorms in various districts including Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Torghar, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.

Similar weather conditions are forecasted for Haripur, Kurram, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, and Kohat.

Further south, districts like Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and North and South Waziristan are also likely to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and in some places, heavy downpours.

In terms of possible impacts, the Met Department has specifically cautioned that heavy rainfall in areas like Mardan, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, and Shangla may lead to flooding in local streams and rivers. In addition, the risk of landslides in mountainous regions could lead to road blockages and transport disruptions.

Rainfall recorded on the previous day includes 24mm in Saidu Sharif (Swat), 15mm in Balakot, 9mm in Malam Jabba, 5mm each in Kakol and Kalam, and 3mm in Timergara.

The Meteorological Department has advised citizens and relevant authorities to take precautionary measures to cope with any emergencies arising from the expected weather changes.
