Türkiye's Africa Trade Surges, Exports on Rise

(MENAFN) Türkiye is steadily boosting its trade footprint across Africa, driven by a strategic "win-win" approach that aims to deepen political, cultural, and economic ties through mutual investment.

Under its “Developing Commercial and Economic Relations with African Countries” initiative, Türkiye is actively working to link its business sectors with those in African nations, particularly in key industries such as energy, healthcare, construction, and agriculture.

Ankara is also exporting its growing defense industry capabilities to the continent. Major Turkish firms—Baykar, Aselsan, Turkish Aerospace Industries, and Nurol Holding—are seeing increased demand for their products in Africa. These exports, coupled with joint ventures and diplomatic engagements, are contributing to expanding economic cooperation between Türkiye and African partners.

According to the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly, Türkiye’s exports to African nations reached $19.4 billion in 2024, reflecting a 1.7% increase from the previous year. Egypt topped the list with $3.5 billion in imports, followed by Morocco at $3.1 billion and Libya at $2.5 billion.

Between January and May 2025, Turkish exports climbed to $8.4 billion—an 8.3% year-over-year rise. Morocco led during this five-month period with $1.5 billion in imports, trailed by Egypt at $1.3 billion and Libya at $1.1 billion.

In Morocco, Turkish construction firms have completed infrastructure projects valued at $4.3 billion. Discussions continue to expand cooperation under the existing Free Trade Agreement.

Key sectors in Türkiye’s trade with Morocco include motor vehicles, electrical machinery, mineral fuels, and oil products. Trade is expected to grow further under the continued “win-win” model.

At the same time, Türkiye is aiming to reach a trade volume of $15 billion with Egypt—its largest trading partner on the continent.
