Erdogan expresses support for truce between Iran, Israel
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed support on Tuesday for reports of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, urging both sides to honor the truce completely.
“We welcome the news, coming late last night, that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between the parties. We call on all parties to fully respect the ceasefire,” Erdogan said in Ankara before departing for the NATO summit in The Hague.
He emphasized the region’s inability to bear the consequences of continued conflict. “As I have said before, our region cannot bear the burden of a war whose impacts will be felt across the world. It would be the right, favorable, and smart attitude to take fingers off the triggers and give diplomacy a chance to resolve conflicts,” he added.
Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to upholding international law and prioritizing diplomatic solutions. “Türkiye will resolutely maintain its principled stance that upholds international law and prioritizes diplomacy,” he stated.
He condemned Israel’s actions, which he said extend beyond Palestine to Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. “Israel’s reckless actions – starting with Palestine and extending to Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and ultimately Iran – are absolutely unacceptable,” Erdogan said.
Warning of broader consequences, he urged global powers to intervene decisively. "Global actors must take effective steps to put an end to this madness, or it won’t be just our region but the entire world that pays a price," he warned.
Erdogan also called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, a halt to Israeli attacks, and uninterrupted humanitarian aid delivery to the area.
