UN Chief Blasts Iran's Missile Strike on U.S. Base in Qatar
(MENAFN) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres voiced serious concern on Monday over Iran’s missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, calling it a dangerous step toward further instability in the region.
The secretary-general is gravely concerned about the worsening conflict in the Middle East. Since the beginning of the crisis, he has consistently denounced all forms of military escalation, including Iran’s missile strike on Qatari territory on Monday, said his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, in an official statement.
Guterres renewed his appeal for all sides to immediately end hostilities and seek peaceful solutions. He further calls on all UN member states to honor their commitments under the UN Charter and international law, the statement continued.
The incident marks a troubling turn in a region already fraught with rising tensions, with the UN stressing the urgent need for restraint and adherence to international norms.
