Geneva Talks Kick Off to Halt Israel-Iran Conflict Escalation

(MENAFN) An essential international summit kicked off Friday in Geneva, aiming to halt ongoing clashes between Israel and Iran. This marks the launch of an intense 14-day diplomatic mission focused on averting a broader Middle Eastern war.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul convened with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss Tehran's nuclear program and explore possible diplomatic solutions to de-escalate tensions. The EU's foreign policy head, Kaja Kallas, is also participating in the discussions.

These talks occur a week after Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s military and nuclear sites, followed by retaliatory Iranian attacks.

Observers regard the Geneva negotiations as a pivotal move to build momentum ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague next week, where security challenges in the Middle East are expected to be a key agenda item.
