Russian kamikaze UAV destroys Ukrainian naval drone

(MENAFN) Russian drone operators released footage showing a successful interception of a Ukrainian naval suicide drone targeting the Crimean Bridge on Tuesday. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Local reports stated that Russian air defenses shot down three drones over the bridge early Tuesday, although normal traffic resumed later in the day. The video, shared by the Telegram channel Russian Airborne, shows a Ukrainian unmanned naval drone speeding across the water before a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone, known as the Lancet, dives down and disables the Ukrainian drone, which then drifts to a stop.

The Russian Transport Ministry noted that the bridge was temporarily closed twice during the day but had reopened by Tuesday evening. The SBU stated that it detonated around 1,100 kilograms of explosives near the bridge’s underwater supports, which had been placed earlier.

Local sources suggest that Ukraine likely launched two waves of attacks using a combination of air, naval, and underwater drones but failed to cause significant damage to the bridge. The Russian Defense Ministry has not issued an official comment on the event.

Since the conflict escalated in 2022, Ukraine has made multiple attempts to destroy the strategic bridge connecting Crimea with mainland Russia. The structure sustained damage during previous attacks in 2022 and 2023, which also resulted in civilian casualties.
