Netanyahu plan to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader
(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declined to rule out the possibility of assassinating Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as hostilities between the two countries intensify.
Since last Friday, Israel has launched strikes against Iranian nuclear and military sites, aiming to halt Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. These operations have also affected civilian locations, including Iran’s state broadcaster on Monday. The United States, previously involved in Oman-facilitated nuclear negotiations with Iran, has expressed support for Israel’s military actions.
In an interview with a media organization, Netanyahu was asked about reports that US President Donald Trump rejected an Israeli proposal to assassinate Khamenei due to fears of escalating the conflict. Netanyahu responded, “It’s not going to escalate the conflict, it’s going to end the conflict.”
He added, “The ‘forever war’ is what Iran wants, and they’re bringing us to the brink of nuclear war. In fact, what Israel is doing is preventing this, bringing an end to this aggression.”
When pressed about targeting Khamenei, the prime minister stated, “Look, we’re doing what we need to do. I’m not going to get into the details, but we’ve targeted their top nuclear scientists.”
Israel asserts that it has eliminated at least ten Iranian nuclear scientists through targeted bombings since last week, while Iran has long accused Israel of covertly assassinating its leading nuclear experts over the past decade before the recent escalation.
