Jordan, Other Nations Condemn Israeli Strikes On Iran, Urge De-Escalation

Amman, June 16 (Petra) -- Jordan and a number of other nations Monday issued a joint statement condemning Israeli attacks against Iran and calling for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
The statement highlighted the "rapid regional developments and unprecedented escalation of tension" in the wake of "Israeli aggression" against the Islamic Republic of Iran since dawn on June 13, 2025.
Foreign ministers from Jordan, the UAE, Pakistan, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Turkey, Chad, Gambia, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, and Mauritania collectively affirmed their "rejection and condemnation" of the Israeli actions.
They underscored that these practices constitute a "breach of international law and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter," emphasizing the critical need to respect state sovereignty, territorial integrity, principles of good neighborliness, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
The signatories expressed "profound concern" over the dangerous escalation, warning of its severe repercussions on the security and stability of the entire region.
They stressed the imperative to halt Israeli hostile acts against Iran, particularly at a time when the Middle East is experiencing heightened levels of tension, and called for efforts to reduce tension leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and calm.
The joint statement also reiterated the importance of making the Middle East a nuclear-weapon-free zone and free of other weapons of mass destruction, in accordance with relevant international resolutions and without selectivity.
It urged all regional states to promptly accede to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Furthermore, the nations stressed that nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards must not be targeted, in line with IAEA and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Such targeting, they noted, represents a "flagrant violation" of international law and international humanitarian law under the 1949 Geneva Conventions.
The ministers also called for an immediate return to negotiations as the sole path to a sustainable agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. They emphasized the importance of respecting freedom of navigation in international waterways in accordance with relevant international law and refraining from undermining the security of international navigation.
Concluding the statement, the signatory nations affirmed that diplomacy, dialogue, and adherence to principles of good neighborliness consistent with international law and the UN Charter are the only means to resolve regional crises. They firmly asserted that the current crisis "cannot be settled by military means."
