Russia Repatriates Bodies of Over 6,060 Deceased Soldiers to Ukraine

(MENAFN) In a significant development in the ongoing conflict, Russia has repatriated the remains of 6,060 deceased soldiers to Ukraine, Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky announced on Monday. This transfer marks a major step following an agreement reached during the Russia-Ukraine negotiations held in Istanbul on June 2, where Russia committed to returning the bodies of 6,000 fallen Ukrainian soldiers.

Medinsky also revealed that Russia has received the remains of 78 Russian soldiers from Ukraine, highlighting a reciprocal effort amid the hostilities. The exchange of remains is part of a broader cooperation aimed at addressing humanitarian concerns amid the conflict.

“Prisoner exchanges continue. Arrangements have also been established regarding the exchange of severely wounded servicemen from the frontline,” Medinsky, who serves as Russia’s chief negotiator in talks with Ukraine, shared in a Telegram post. His statement underscores ongoing communication channels between the two sides, despite the broader conflict’s intensity.

This latest development reflects an attempt by both Russia and Ukraine to manage humanitarian issues, even as fighting persists in various regions.
