Kuwait Min.: 3Rd Nat'l Campaign To Settle Debts Of The Indebted Reviews 9,119 Cases

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, June 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Social Affairs said Thursday that the third national campaign to settle the debts of financially distressed individuals is continuing its efforts intensively with six technical and Sharia committees.
In a press statement, the ministry said that the committees reviewed over 9,119 applications submitted through the Central Assistance Platform since the campaign's launch.
The funds collected, exceeding KD 15 million (approx. USD 48.9 million), will be transferred to the General Directorate of Execution at the Ministry of Justice to handle the repayment of eligible debts in accordance with the approved criteria, the statement added.
The ministry noted that the specialized committees began their work about a month ago and are reviewing each case individually under a strict protocol to ensure eligibility, prevent duplication, and maintain fairness in the distribution of assistance.
Priority in receiving support is given to Kuwaiti debtors currently in correctional institutions or those with active enforcement files, while applicants who previously benefited from the 2023 and 2024 campaigns are excluded in order to broaden the reach and assist the most vulnerable groups, the ministry added.
The ministry affirmed that the organizing committee is keen on providing responsive and efficient communication channels by addressing inquiries through the "Sahel" government application to facilitate follow-up and promote transparency.
It also praised the pivotal role played by participating entities, especially Zakat House, the General Secretariat of Awqaf, the Isa Abdullah Al-Othman Endowment, Kuwait Finance House, as well as cooperative societies, charitable organizations and individual donors.
The ministry concluded its statement by affirming that the third national campaign is not just a charitable initiative, but an embodiment of Kuwait's humanitarian mission, a reflection of its values of justice and compassion, and a continuation of its commitment to support vulnerable groups while preserving their dignity and social stability.
