Türkiye gets selected for ECOSOC


(MENAFN) Türkiye was elected on Wednesday to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the main platform overseeing the United Nations’ work on sustainable development and economic matters.

Türkiye’s UN representative, Ahmet Yildiz, shared his appreciation to member nations for their trust and backing in a statement on X.

“We look forward to working together to advance global development agenda,” Yildiz said.

Under the Western European and Other States category, Türkiye garnered 174 votes and will join Australia, Finland, and Norway in serving a three-year term on the council.

In total, 18 nations were elected to ECOSOC, including four from the African region, four from the Asia-Pacific, three from Eastern Europe, and three from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The newly elected countries will commence their terms on January 1, 2026.
