Ukraine Submits Ceasefire Proposal
(MENAFN) Ukraine has officially presented its proposed ceasefire conditions to Russia, as revealed by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
This development follows the first face-to-face discussions between the two nations in three years, held in Istanbul on May 16.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to create documents articulating their respective visions for a ceasefire agreement.
In a statement shared on X, Umerov, who headed the Ukrainian negotiating team, stated, “I handed over our document to the head of the Russian delegation, which reflects the Ukrainian position. They received this document.”
He emphasized that Ukraine is not averse to continuing dialogue with Russia and is now waiting for their counterpart's “memorandum,” in hopes that future discussions will be more substantive and genuinely contribute to halting the ongoing conflict.
Umerov stressed that Kyiv remains open to an immediate, unconditional ceasefire.
However, he noted that Ukraine has yet to obtain a formal response from Russia and accused Moscow of attempting to postpone progress in the dialogue.
On the other hand, Russia’s chief negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, refuted claims that Moscow is dragging its feet in the peace process.
Writing on Telegram, he mentioned that he had contacted Umerov on Wednesday and had suggested “a date and location for the exchange of memorandums.”
