German Finance Minister Demands Resolution to EU-U.S. Trade Tensions

(MENAFN) German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil emphasized the urgent need to resolve the ongoing trade tensions between the European Union and the United States, describing it as a mutual priority.

Speaking in an interview with a German public broadcaster on Sunday, Klingbeil highlighted that negotiations are at a pivotal juncture. He stated, "We should not allow ourselves to be provoked," stressing the necessity of forging a cooperative agreement that serves both parties’ interests.

Klingbeil referenced recent U.S. economic data, including indicators related to the U.S. dollar, as signs that Washington benefits from closer collaboration. "They, too, should have an interest in working with us," he stated.

Cautioning about the risk of significant market disruptions, he called for prompt action to prevent instability. Despite the difficulties, Klingbeil maintained "cautious optimism" that the dispute could soon be settled.
