Putin suggests unconditional peace discussions with Ukraine
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to resume peace talks with Ukraine without any preconditions, proposing to start the discussions as soon as Thursday, May 15, in Istanbul. Putin made this offer in a speech following the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, where he hosted numerous international dignitaries, including leaders from China, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
Putin referred to the peace talks held in Türkiye earlier in 2022, which were eventually interrupted, and expressed Russia's willingness to continue serious negotiations with Ukraine to address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a long-term, lasting peace.
The president also extended his congratulations on Victory Day and expressed gratitude to foreign partners and leaders who attended the events in Moscow. He honored those who fought against Nazism, highlighting the shared history and responsibility to build a safer, more just future.
Putin spoke of the importance of the bilateral and multilateral meetings held during the celebrations, noting that 27 heads of state and many international organizations participated, emphasizing the global solidarity and respect for the victory over fascism. He also thanked the leaders whose countries contributed to the parade on Red Square, including military representatives from various nations, which he said filled the celebration with a spirit of unity and military camaraderie.
