Türkiye, US Plan to Convene for Syria Talks

(MENAFN) A collaborative session of the Türkiye-US working group on Syria is set to convene on Tuesday in Washington, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

This high-level gathering will be conducted in an inter-agency format and will be jointly led by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

The meeting will center around the two nations’ approaches toward Syria and will explore potential avenues for joint efforts to enhance "security and stability" in the region.

Officials are expected to evaluate shared interests and identify coordinated strategies for regional peace.

A significant portion of the dialogue will be devoted to the ongoing struggle against "ISIS (Daesh)" and other extremist groups.

Discussions will also include Türkiye’s backing of the Syrian government and its broader regional operations aimed at dismantling such terrorist networks.

In addition, the agenda will cover prospects for collaboration in the camps located in northeastern Syria.

The American delegation is anticipated to share updates concerning the reorganization and strengthening of US military forces stationed within Syria.

This session comes shortly after recent direct talks between the United States and Syria at the highest levels, as well as President Trump’s declaration regarding the removal of sanctions on Syria.

In light of these developments, the participants are also likely to address the expected roadmap and timeline for the suspension of US-imposed sanctions on Syria, Turkish sources indicated.

Deputy Minister Nuh Yilmaz is expected to stress Türkiye's commitment to comprehensive cooperation with Washington, spanning political, economic, and defense dimensions.

He will underscore Türkiye’s dedication to supporting Syria’s "territorial integrity and unity" while working toward lasting "security and stability" in the country.
