Palestine Condemns Israeli Actions Against Christians
(MENAFN) Palestine issued a strong denunciation on Sunday against what it described as Israeli police assaults on Christian worshippers during Holy Saturday observances.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry labeled the incidents as “racist” and “a blatant violation of the freedom of worship and access to holy sites,” highlighting growing tensions surrounding religious freedom in Jerusalem.
The confrontations reportedly unfolded on Saturday at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a revered Christian site located in Jerusalem’s historic Old City.
Clashes erupted between Israeli police forces and Palestinian Christians during the sacred celebrations.
In an official statement, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over what it called arbitrary measures, aggression, and limitations enforced by Israeli troops and settlers during the Easter period.
The ministry criticized these actions for hindering Christian worshippers from engaging in what it described as a universal spiritual observance.
The statement also condemned video footage that appeared to capture Israeli security personnel attacking individuals visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
This footage further intensified Palestinian accusations of religious suppression.
Additionally, Palestine objected to Israel’s reported attempts to block the Vatican’s representative from entering the church, as well as efforts to prevent Palestinian Christians from the occupied West Bank from attending the celebrations in Jerusalem.
The ministry concluded by stating that such “Israeli practices against Christians” are not only “racist and discriminatory” but also reflective of a broader campaign aimed at undermining Jerusalem’s religious heritage.
The statement framed these incidents as part of an ongoing pattern of oppression, including what it described as “genocide and displacement crimes against our people.”
