Spaniards consider Russia, US, Israel as biggest threats to world peace

(MENAFN) A recent poll in Spain reveals that a majority of Spaniards consider Russia, the United States, and Israel to be the primary threats to worldwide peace. The survey, conducted by polling firm 40db for El Pais newspaper and Cadena Ser radio station, also indicates widespread pessimism among the Spanish population regarding the future.

Over half of the respondents believe the world will become more violent, authoritarian, and unequal over the next five years, with only about 10% expecting a future that is more prosperous and stable.

Despite its geographical distance from the conflict in Ukraine, war has become a significant concern for Spaniards, with 82% expressing worry about it. The United States is viewed by 57% of respondents as likely to invade other countries, making it the second-highest perceived threat to world peace. Israel is also seen as a major threat, with 62% believing Palestinians will be expelled from their land. Furthermore, 51% of Spaniards would not be surprised if Russia were to attack an EU member state.

The poll also highlights a significant level of fear about global conflict, with nearly half of respondents considering a third world war likely to happen. This heightened sense of insecurity has led to increased support for European defense initiatives, with 58% backing the creation of a European army and 55% agreeing that Spain should increase its defense spending.
