Kazakhstan Plots To Increase Container Cargo Transportation Along Middle Corridor By 2027

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 4. Kazakhstan plans to increase container cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route to 10 million tons by 2027, said President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the "Central Asia – European Union" summit in Samarkand, Trend reports.

According to him, last year the volume of container transport along the Middle Corridor increased by 62 percent, reaching 4.5 million tons.

Tokayev also noted the readiness to boost exports to EU countries for 175 product positions worth over 2 billion dollars.

"Kazakhstan accounts for about 13 percent of the EU's oil imports, the majority of which is transported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. We highly value the EU for the stable and long-term operation of the CPC and, at the same time, are developing alternative routes for raw material transportation," he said.

In conclusion, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked the participants of the event and European partners for supporting the initiative to create the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. In his view, this Center will effectively contribute to the advancement of the universal "Agenda 2030" and help address pressing social, economic, and environmental issues in the region.

The“Central Asia – European Union” summit is an important diplomatic meeting where cooperation issues between the Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) and the European Union are discussed. These summits are usually held to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between the two regions.
