Greenland unveils plans for new autonomous government

(MENAFN) Greenland has announced the establishment of a new autonomous government in its capital city on Friday, just hours before the scheduled arrival of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on the Arctic island.

Jens-Frederik Nielsen from the Demokraatit party will lead as the new prime minister. The announcement was celebrated by local residents, with one citizen, Aviaja Martinsen stated in an interview, "I hope the new government can speak out on behalf of the people of Greenland."

Jens-Frederik Nielsen, chairman of the Demokraatit (Democratic Party), has been named as the new prime minister.

In a visit marked by heightened diplomatic sensitivity, U.S. Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to arrive in Greenland today. This trip comes against the backdrop of ongoing U.S. interest in the region, fueled by President Donald Trump's persistent desire to acquire the territory. Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark, holds significant strategic and economic value due to its location and rich natural resources.
