Kremlin says Russia praises energy attack truce regardless of Ukraine’s breechings

(MENAFN) Russia remains committed to its pledge to halt strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, despite multiple ceasefire violations by Kiev, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Peskov confirmed that Moscow continues to honor the partial truce, which was agreed upon after a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump last week. The agreement includes a 30-day suspension of attacks on energy facilities, though Russia declined a full ceasefire due to concerns over Ukraine’s ongoing mobilization and rearmament.

“There have been no new directives from [President Putin],” Peskov said. “Our armed forces are carrying out all instructions from the commander-in-chief.”

However, Russian officials have accused Ukraine of immediately violating the deal. According to Moscow, Ukrainian forces destroyed a gas metering station in the Kursk Region while retreating from the town of Sudzha and launched attacks on an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar Region. On Monday night, Russian air defenses also intercepted a Ukrainian drone near an oil pumping station operated by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, a facility co-owned by American investors.

“We are closely monitoring the situation,” Peskov added. “Our American counterparts also have the ability to observe and draw their own conclusions.”

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has warned that if Ukraine continues to disregard the agreement, Moscow reserves the right to respond in kind, including with “symmetrical” measures.
