Kuwaiti Aid Effort Provides Vital Support To Displaced Sudanese


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PORT SUDAN, March 26 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti humanitarian initiative has provided much-needed aid to thousands of displaced people in Sudan, as the country continues to grapple with a severe humanitarian crisis.
The Kuwait Patients' Helping Fund Society (KPHFS) - Sudan Office, in partnership with the Kuwait Relief Society, has distributed 1,626 food baskets across 12 locations in the states of Gezira, Kassala, Gedaref, and River Nile. The initiative aims to assist more than 28,000 displaced individuals and returnees affected by ongoing instability in the region.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Gedaref State Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Zahraa Mirghani described the initiative as a "significant contribution" in alleviating the hardships faced by those impacted. She extended her gratitude to the Kuwait Relief Society and other partners supporting the effort.
Dr. Omar Awad Al-Karim, the project director for KPHFS, highlighted the scale of the initiative, noting that 28,821 beneficiaries have received assistance, which includes the distribution of food baskets and 3,000 blankets. Each food basket, designed to sustain a family for a month, contains 25 kilograms of flour, 10 kilograms of sugar, 4 liters of oil, 3 kilograms of lentils, and a quarter kilogram of Indian peas.
Dr. Al-Karim also emphasized that KPHFS is working alongside its partners to expand aid distribution efforts, particularly as security conditions improve in some areas.(end)
