China initiates online portal to track 'Taiwan Independence' activities

(MENAFN) In an escalation of tensions, China has unveiled an online portal to monitor activities related to "Taiwan independence," local media revealed on Wednesday.

This move comes as Taiwan has initiated a campaign to revoke the household registration of citizens holding Chinese identity cards, with 14 individuals already notified.

The Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council has added a "reporting section" to its website, allowing the “public to report vile acts by those advocating ‘Taiwan independence’ and their accomplices in persecuting Taiwan compatriots.” According to council spokesman Chen Binhua, the portal is "intended to hold key 'Taiwan independence' separatists accountable."

Taiwan has broadened its investigations into citizens, including those with Chinese citizenship, citing heightened national security concerns, officials announced.

The move comes after Taiwanese regional leader William Lai Ching-te unveiled a comprehensive strategy earlier this month to counteract what he described as China's attempts to "undermine" Taiwan's "sovereignty."
