Germany Urges Global Commitment To Paris Climate Summit's Outcomes
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BERLIN, March 26 (KUNA) -- Germany called on world nation on Tuesday to uphold the "historic" outcomes of November 2024 Paris Climate Summit and build them to ensure the success of the upcoming COP30 summit in Brazil this November.
This came, as Berlin hosted the Petersberg Climate Dialogue (PCD) that began today, with delegation from 40 countries gathering at Germany's Foreign Ministry to coordinate positions ahead of the COP30 summit in Belem, Brazil.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized that last year's breakthrough agreement in Paris marked a turning point in tackling climate change, stressing the need to maintain the limiting of global warming to 1.5آ°C on average.
"Anyone who dismisses climate action in these turbulent times as being expensive, onerous or superfluous cannot count. For if we do not act now, we will subsequently have much higher costs to deal with," she warned.
Meanwhile, COP30 COP President-Designate Andre Correa do Lago highlighted the significance of the PCD, calling it "vital political forum to advance the global climate agenda", noting this year's discussion would lay the groundwork for COP30, supporting the commitment to 1.5آ°C target.
The two-day conference aim to foster international cooperation and accelerate the transition to climate-friendly economics
