Israel detains Oscar-winning ‘No Other Land’ contributor

(MENAFN) Israeli forces apprehended a Palestinian individual from the West Bank, sources indicate. This individual faces detention following involvement in the production of a recently Oscar-awarded documentary.

The detention of Hamdan al-Harini, a contributor to the acclaimed film "No Other Land," occurred during an attack conducted by unauthorized colonizers on the Susya community, situated within the Masafer Yatta region, located south of Hebron.

Palestinian anti-settlement activist Osama Makhamra, who meticulously documents Israeli violations, confirmed the detention.

The film "No Other Land," which garnered the Oscar for best documentary at the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on March 2nd, presents a stark portrayal of a Palestinian family's forced displacement. This displacement, depicted in the film, results from actions undertaken by the Israeli government in Masafer Yatta.

The film's direction is credited to Basel Adra, Yuval Abraham, Hamdan Ballal, and Rachel Szor. During their acceptance address at the Academy Awards ceremony, the filmmakers addressed the audience. They used this platform to advocate for a cessation of ethnic cleansing targeting Palestinians. Their statement specifically referenced the situations unfolding in both Gaza and the West Bank.
