Turkish foreign minister urges efforts based on Egypt’s Gaza plan

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan urged international efforts to address the Gaza crisis, advocating for Egypt’s proposed plan as a constructive approach.

Speaking at the Gaza Contact Group meeting in Cairo on Sunday, Fidan emphasized that the plan, which has the backing of all Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) members, offers a viable framework for resolving the situation.

Fidan highlighted ongoing atrocities in Gaza, including genocide, forced displacement, and apartheid, despite the ongoing talks. Referring to Israel's airstrikes on March 18, he expressed concern that Israel’s actions reflect a broader, more aggressive plan.

The Turkish foreign minister also pointed to the prevention of humanitarian aid and Israeli strikes on Syrian and Lebanese territories as further evidence of Israel's expansionist policies. Fidan stressed the need for increased pressure on Israel, asserting that “peace is not possible in the region without stopping Israel.

"Our primary goal should be to stop the destruction in Gaza and achieve a permanent ceasefire. The pressure on Israel needs to be increased,” he concluded.
