Egypt, Eritrea Affirm Support For Somalia Against Terrorism

CAIRO, March 23 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Eritrea on Sunday affirmed their commitment to support Somalia in fighting terrorism and safeguarding the nation's territorial sanctity.
The Egyptian Presidency said in a statement that the state stand was expressed during a meeting between President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and the visiting Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh.
The two sides discussed conditions in the African Horn, means of boosting stability in the region either through bilateral efforts or the three-party coordination mechanism with Somalia, the statement said of the meeting, attentded by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti and Chief of the Public Intelligence Major General Hassan Mohammad Rashad.
The discussions also addressed plans for restoring peace and stability in Sudan, protecting the Red Sea, aiding the littoral states in securing the waters.
The Eritrean minister conveyed greetings from Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to President Al-Ssis, affirming depth of the bilateral relations.
Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia, during a 2024 meeting of the joint tripartite ministerial committee, pledged to promote strategic cooperation in all areas. The vow came on the heels of a tripartite summit of the three nations' top leaders.
The heads of state of the three countries, during the summit, had stressed the need to respect the fundamental principles of international law, in particular the greatest possible respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the countries in the region.
They agreed to increase and deepen cooperation to help the Somali authorities to face various internal and external challenges and to enable the Somali army to fight terrorism. (end)
