Australia's tank plan for Ukraine faces setbacks
(MENAFN) Australia’s plan to send its US-made Abrams tanks to Ukraine is facing setbacks after the US suspended military assistance.
The Australian Defense Ministry stated that the transfer of the tanks remains “complex,” with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese describing the task as "a difficult task."
In 2024, Australia committed to delivering 49 of its M1A1 Abrams tanks as part of a $245 million military support package to reinforce Ukraine’s defense against Russia.
The ministry emphasized that it is "collaborating closely with partners, including the US, to facilitate the prompt delivery of the M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine."
However, the media source reports that logistics at the Polish city of Rzeszow, located around 100 kilometers from the Ukraine border, have become contentious due to the US freeze on aid.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski noted during the previous week that the supply of American weapons to Ukraine through Poland had returned to prior levels at the US military base in Rzeszow.
