FBI go on ‘frenzied mission’ to redact Epstein documents
(MENAFN) The FBI is in a frantic rush to redact files related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation before they are made public, CNN reported on Saturday.
According to sources familiar with the effort, agents are working nonstop, even pausing other investigations to focus on the massive redaction process. The report claims that FBI divisions across the country have been ordered to divert personnel, including those handling criminal and national security cases, such as alleged threats from China and Iran.
The process has been underway for most of the week at FBI headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as offices in New York and Virginia. Agents have reportedly spent hours redacting both documents and videos.
The Justice Department (DOJ) defended the effort, stating that the redactions were legally required, but still promised “unprecedented transparency” in a statement to CNN.
Shortly after taking office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order mandating the release of Epstein-related files, along with classified documents on the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.
The DOJ released a batch of documents in February, calling it ‘The Epstein Files: Phase 1.’ However, these files were heavily redacted and contained little new information. Attorney General Pam Bondi later accused the FBI of withholding “thousands of pages” of documents.
The initial release also drew criticism from Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna, head of Trump’s declassification task force, who demanded full disclosure rather than releasing already known details to the media.
The Epstein case remains a high-profile scandal, largely due to the financier’s extensive connections with influential figures, including:
•Former US President Bill Clinton
•Britain’s Prince Andrew
•Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates
•Various celebrities and business leaders
Trump, who once knew Epstein, has denied ever visiting his private island and insists he cut ties with him in the 1990s, long before Epstein’s 2006 arrest for soliciting prostitution.
