South Korea Witnesses Wildfires Leading to Deaths, Injuries

(MENAFN) Nearly four people have lost their lives, six others have been wounded, and approximately 1,500 civilians have been evacuated due to raging wildfires in South Korea’s southeastern region, local media reported on Sunday.

The fire, which began in Sancheong County on Friday, has since spread to three additional regions, according to a South Korean news agency. All the casualties were located in Sancheong, with five in critical condition.

So far, about 1,500 people have been evacuated to safety.

Firefighters are facing significant challenges in controlling the blaze. Authorities have deployed over 30 helicopters to assist in extinguishing the fire.

By early Sunday morning, around 30 percent of the wildfire in Sancheong had been contained.

Lee Han-kyung, the deputy chief of the disaster control tower, mentioned that the fires were rapidly spreading as a consequence of dry conditions.
