Poland Intends to Deploy Up to One Million Mines on Borders with Russia, Belarus
(MENAFN) Poland intends to place as many as one million mines along its borders with Russia and Belarus, based on an announcement made by the nation's deputy defense minister, as reported by local media on Thursday.
The decision follows Poland's recent declaration, along with the Baltic states, to exit the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty.
Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Bejda emphasized that this move is driven by the significant and tangible security risks the region faces along its borders with Russia and Belarus.
Bejda further stated, "We presently have no anti-personnel mines but have the capacity to produce them, with joint efforts of public and private arms enterprises."
