Somali Pres. Underlines Army Reinforcement Against Militants

CAIRO, March 22 (KUNA) -- Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stressed on Saturday the necessity of reinforcing popular and institutional support for the Somali armed forces in their battle against Al-Shabaab militants.
The Somali president made the remarks while his meeting with elders, community leaders and politicians during visit to Middle Shabelle Region, according to the country's official news agency.
He also underlined that it is essential for all national forces and groups to throw much weight behind the army in "its war on terrorism".
Somali elders and community leaders, on their part, were quoted as commending the president's efforts in this regard, and emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation to secure lasting peace and stability in the region. (end)
