KEPS Launches Initiative On Earth Hour

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, March 22 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) announced on Saturday launching an initiative marking the "Earth Hour", a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which falls on March 22.
Yusuf Al-Ramzi, deputy head of the KEPS engineers' team, which launched the move, said in a news statement that the initiative designs a daily lifestyle and behavior of individuals, bodies, institutions and companies, and turns the symbol of "Earth Hour" to a sustainable environmental act.
The move aims to encourage daily habits, which lessen water and electricity consumption through raising awareness programs and student activities, as part of green schools programs affiliated to the KEPS, he added.
He referred to a series of activities, challenges and competitions to be declared in this regard.
This occasion does not include only giving up lights but it also seeks to raise awareness on preserving environment and climate change by making varied activities and following up effective methods and steps to make use of renewable energy at workplaces, he noted.
The "Earth Hour" event is held annually to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to give up non-essential electricity for an hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., for the sake of Earth, as a symbol of commitment to the planet. (end)
