Lebanese Prime Minister Warns Of Return Of Wide-Scale Hostilities

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, March 22 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Saturday warned against resumption of wide scale military hostilities across the southern borders.
Such an eventuality will bring calamities to Lebanon and the Lebanese, Salam said in a statement as he called Defense Minister Michel Menassah urging him to take all necessary security and military precautions to maintain calm in the south.
Salam made the remarks after rockets were fired from southern Lebanon in the direction of the Israeli occupation entity that retaliated with artillery volleys on southern Lebanese areas.
The official National News Agency said the southern town of Al-Khiam was targeted with tank fire from the occupation outposts farther south. Simultaneously, artillery shells crashed into Yohmor Al-Shqif, Aroun and Kfar Tibnit. The occupation troops also machine-gunned locations around Hola, Markaba and Kfar Kila.
A cease-fire was enforced on November 27 to halt heavy hostilities that began in October 2023. (end)
