Trump makes ‘very good’ phone call with Zelensky
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump held a “very good” phone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on Wednesday, primarily focusing on Trump’s earlier 2.5-hour discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a brief statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained that the call aimed to align Ukraine and Russia on their respective needs and expectations. “We are very much on track,” he stated, adding that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz would provide further details on the discussion.
The Trump-Putin talks centered on the ongoing Ukraine conflict and potential steps toward de-escalation. Trump proposed a 30-day mutual suspension of strikes on energy infrastructure, an idea that Putin immediately supported, instructing Russia’s military to halt such attacks.
Zelensky publicly endorsed the proposal on Tuesday and reaffirmed his support during his conversation with Trump, according to Bloomberg. However, earlier in the day, the Ukrainian leader voiced concerns about ensuring compliance.
“If Russia stops striking our targets, we will definitely stop hitting targets in Russia. But Putin’s promises alone are not enough; there must be control. The main subject of this control must be the US,” Zelensky stated during a joint press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
