Football Player Lucy Bronze Opens up About Autism
(MENAFN) During her childhood, the England international, who has achieved nearly every honor in women's football, tried to imitate her teammates' actions to blend in with the group.
The 2019 Ballon d'Or runner-up has since experienced remarkable success, both domestically and internationally, securing 22 prestigious titles while playing for top clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester City, Lyon, Barcelona, and Chelsea.
A Euro 2022 champion and 2023 World Cup runner-up with England, the 33-year-old player has become a role model to countless young athletes and fans alike. However, it's not just the statistics and accolades that define a person.
Her mother had long suspected that she might be autistic, but it wasn't until four years ago that Bronze received an official diagnosis of autism as well as external ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Despite being diagnosed with autism only in 2021, the news did not come as a significant shock to her.
"It was something I always knew about in a way," she shares. "My mum had spoken about it from a very young age and noticed things in me."
