Trump Administration Declassifies Thousands Of Documents On JFK Assassination
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
WASHINGTON, March 19 (KUNA) -- The US government has declassified thousands of documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on his first day in office, January 20.
In addition to the release of JFK-related files, the executive order mandates the declassification of documents concerning the assassinations of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
A total of 1,123 pages out of approximately 80,000 have been published on the National Archives website.
The release comes a day after President Trump, during a visit to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, stated, "people have been waiting for decades for this, and I've instructed my people... lots of different people, [director of national intelligence] Tulsi Gabbard, that they must be released tomorrow." "You got a lot of reading. I don't believe we're going to redact anything. I said, 'just don't redact, you can't redact,'" Trump added, emphasizing that the documents would be "very interesting." However, Fox News reported that some documents scheduled for future release may undergo redactions, despite Trump's remarks suggesting otherwise.
An unnamed source told Fox News that redactions would primarily cover personal details, such as Social Security numbers, as well as sensitive information related to "live assets in Cuba." Due to the large volume of documents, Fox News noted that the full release will take several days to complete. (end) rsr
