Germany Highlights Sharp European Support for Syria's Reconstruction

(MENAFN) Germany has emphasized strong European backing for Syria’s economic rebuilding as well as Political transition ahead of a main international donors' conference in Brussels on Monday.

In a statement shared prior to the meeting, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock underscored both the opportunities as well as difficulties Syria encounters as it seeks to recover from more than ten years of brutal civil conflict.

“Three and a half months after the fall of the Assad regime, the Syrian people find themselves incredibly close to a historic opportunity for a better, more peaceful future,” Baerbock stated, while also expressing worries about the latest sectarian aggression in Syria's seaside area.

She pointed out that these incidents of sectarian aggression have sparked widespread fears, both within Syria and internationally, of a return to the previous stage of instability along with violence.

“This makes it clear how urgent it is to take concrete steps towards political inclusion—for all Syrians, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or gender,” Baerbock continued, stating furthermore that the Syrian government must discuss the latest violence and take steps to prevent further activities of revenge.
