Govt Approves Rs 1,112 Cr For Two New Electronics Manufacturing Clusters In Tamil Nadu: Minister Vaishnaw

(MENAFN- KNN India) Chennai, Mar 17 (KNN) The Union government has sanctioned Rs 1,112 crore for the establishment of two new Electronics manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant advancement in India's electronics manufacturing sector.

This strategic investment aims to enhance local production capabilities and strengthen the state's position in the global electronics supply chain.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information technology Ashwini Vaishnaw made this announcement on Saturday during the inauguration of Zetwerk Electronics' seventh manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur.

The minister emphasised the central government's dedication to expanding India's electronics ecosystem and acknowledged Tamil Nadu's proactive approach in attracting investments to the sector.

The new Zetwerk facility is expected to employ approximately 1,200 professionals when operating at full capacity.

The approved EMCs will be located at Pillaipakkam and Manallur, sites that were initially proposed by the Tamil Nadu government in 2022 as part of the state's comprehensive plan to develop these clusters with financial support from the central government.

"These will be large-scale electronics manufacturing clusters that will contribute significantly to the growth of Tamil Nadu and the country," Minister Vaishnaw stated during the announcement.

Focusing on Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), the clusters are designed to support various electronics verticals covered under the national policy on electronics.

The state government has structured these clusters to attract substantial investment by offering financial assistance covering between 50 percent and 75 percent of the total project cost.

The establishment of these specialised manufacturing zones is expected to accelerate industrial development, generate significant employment opportunities, and contribute to India's broader ambition of establishing itself as a global electronics manufacturing powerhouse.

Industries Minister Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, who attended the inauguration event, highlighted Tamil Nadu's leading position in India's electronics manufacturing landscape, noting that the state currently accounts for 36 percent of the country's electronics exports.

"Tamil Nadu has always been at the forefront of India's manufacturing revolution. Investments from new-age companies like Zetwerk further strengthen our ecosystem and will enable our ambitious target to scale up our yearly electronics exports to USD 100 billion," Dr. Rajaa said.
