Russia reports Ukraine attempted raid into Belgorod before Putin-Trump call


(MENAFN) Russia claimed on Tuesday that Ukraine made five attempts to initiate a raid into its Belgorod area before of a phone talk between US President Donald trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that these actions were intended "to create a negative background" for the discussions between the two leaders.

According to the ministry, the attempted assault occurred at 5:50 a.m. Moscow time (0250GMT) in the western part of Belgorod, close to the villages of Demidovka and Prilesye "to discredit the peace initiative of US President Donald Trump."

During their call that lasted for two and half an hour, Putin and Trump talked about efforts to normalize two-sided relations, potential solutions to the Ukraine conflict, and matters related to the Middle East.
