American runner wins Los Angeles Marathon after 30-year wait
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Matt Richtman secured victory in the 2025 Los Angeles Marathon, becoming the first American to claim the title in over 30 years.
A previous cross-country runner for Montana State University, Richtman clocked a winning time of 2:07:56. The previous American champion, Paul Pilkington, had won in 1994 with a time of 2:12:13.
Tejinesh Tulu of Ethiopia took first place in the women’s race, completing the course in 2:30:16.
Kenyan athletes have secured victory in the men’s event 22 times since 1999, with Ethiopian runners winning the other four races. Meanwhile, African women have triumphed in 12 of the past 15 marathons.
Officials reported that the marathon’s 40th edition saw more than 26,000 runners from various countries take part in the event.
