Andhra Pradesh Targets 3,000 Tonnes Of Green Hydrogen Exports By 2030
During a discussion on the energy sector in the state assembly, the minister highlighted that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) pioneered power reforms in the country, being the first to implement the Electricity Regulatory Commission as part of electricity reforms.
A green hydrogen hub project spanning 1,200 acres is being established in Pudimadaka, Anakapalle district, with an investment of Rs 1.85 lakh crore in partnership with NTPC and Nredcap.
Ravikumar also revealed that Reliance is setting up 500 compressed biogas (CBG) plants across the state, which is expected to benefit local farmers.
Additionally, the state has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tata Renewable Energy Limited (TREL) under IT Minister Nara Lokesh's leadership.
TREL will invest Rs 49,000 crore in green energy projects, with plans to generate 7,000 MW of renewable energy.
In a first for the state, a battery storage system is being introduced to enhance energy reliability.
Approximately 55 new substations are under construction across Andhra Pradesh to provide quality electricity to consumers, addressing the annual 6 percent increase in electricity consumption.
The minister emphasised that plans are in place to increase generation capacity to meet growing demand, while noting that the coalition government has not raised electricity charges.
According to Ravikumar, AP Genco has achieved new records in power generation, resulting in a 60 percent reduction in electricity purchases.
The government is also providing quality electricity to farmers through the PM Kusum scheme, for which the minister has requested the Centre to provide 4.5 lakh agricultural electricity connections.
The Energy Minister criticised the previous YSRCP government's handling of the power sector, claiming it increased electricity charges nine times during its five-year tenure, placing an unbearable burden on citizens.
He further alleged that the previous administration failed to provide irrigation water and significantly damaged the state's power sector.
