Police officers clash with protesters in Argentina
(MENAFN) Police officers confronted with protesters on Wednesday in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires at a demonstration managed by retired people that football fans took part in, groups as well as progressive unions, resulting in no less than 20 injuries.
Police fired tear gas as well as water cannons in order to scatter the protesters, with old people, females as well as young individuals involved. Around 103 people were arrested.
Clips shared on social media showed police officers hitting as well as pulling demonstrators, with a video of a woman who is aged 87, suffering from wound in the head as other people tried to help her.
Between the ones injured, Argentine photojournalist Pablo Grillo, was critically wounded by a gas canister that struck his head when he was demonstrating. It was stated that Grillo is getting hospitalized.
Several football fans tossed sticks as well as cans at the security forces, who defended themselves using shields. A large number of security forces, approximately 800 personnel, overpowered the protest.
The retired people, who usually demonstrate near the National Congress on Wednesday during afternoons, were asking for higher pensions as well as better life quality.
