Special Competitive Studies Project Partners With Coursera To Offer Free Online AI National Security Course
ARLINGTON, Va., March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) and Coursera have partnered to launch a four-module course on artificial intelligence and national security for federal employees working in national security positions.
Last year, SCSP recognized the importance of strengthening technology proficiency within the federal workforce to ensure continued national security leadership. Coursera, a global online learning platform, particularly in AI, offers valuable expertise in this area. To support national security professionals in applying AI effectively, SCSP partnered with Coursera to develop a specialized course focused on practical applications of AI in the field.
"Our custom course, AI in National Security: Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Public Sector Missions , launching today, is designed to prepare mid-career professionals in the national security community to use AI in their daily work. It is critical for these professionals to upskill for successful national AI adoption and global competitiveness, which is largely ignored in current public sector AI education offerings," said SCSP President Ylli Bajraktari. "We are thrilled to partner with Coursera to address this pressing need through this one-of-a-kind course."
The four original content modules designed by SCSP cover why AI is a critical feature of national security, best practices of AI in national security, how AI tools can be deployed for national security priorities, and how to advocate for the advancement of AI adoption within the national security apparatus.
"GenAI is the most sought-after skill on Coursera. However, to unlock its full potential and boost national competitiveness, we need to empower our public sector workforce with essential AI skills," said Coursera Chief Content Officer Marni Baker Stein.. "We're excited to launch this course to provide public sector agencies with the knowledge and skills they need to stay at the forefront of AI innovation and use the technology in their everyday work."
This course addresses the national security imperative of preparing a technologically advanced workforce that will stay ahead of the ever-changing technological and national security landscape. The age of AI demands our state and federal workforce be equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively integrate AI into their missions. A well-prepared and AI-proficient workforce is essential to securing victory in the global technology competition.
