Ukraine says it will buy millions of first-person view drones in 2025

(MENAFN) Ukraine has stated on Monday that it will buy 4.5 million first-person view (FPV) drones this year, which would increase the country’s drone purchases, triple the amount in comparison to last year in the middle of its current conflict with Russia.

Ukraine’s army bought more than 1.5 million drones in 2024, with 96 percent gained by giving money to Ukrainian producers as well as suppliers, as stated by the Defense Ministry’s procurement policy department chief.

The participation of Ukrainian producers along with suppliers in these purchases had a favorable impact on the growth of the region’s drone manufacturing industry, Hlib Kanievsky stated, explaining that the numbers will be even larger this year.

“This year, the figures will be even higher, because the capabilities of the domestic defense industry in 2025 are approximately 4.5 million FPV drones. And the Ministry of Defense plans to purchase them all,” Kanievsky was cited as stating.

He added that the Defense Ministry will collect over 110 billion Ukrainian hryvnias (USD2.6 billion) to buy drones, with 102 billion (USD2.4 billion) to be collected via the Defense Procurement Agency.
