India, Kyrgyzstan To Start Joint Military Exercise On Mon.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI, March 9 (KUNA) -- An Indian Army contingent departed to Kyrgyzstan on Sunday to participate in a joint Special Forces exercise code named KHANJAR-XII.
The Indian Defence Ministry said in a statement that an Indian contingent from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) departed for Kyrgyzstan to participate in the 12th edition of the India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise KHANJAR-XII scheduled to take place on March 10-23.
"Aim of the exercise is to exchange experiences and best practices in counter terrorism and Special Forces operations in urban and mountainous high altitude terrain scenarios," the statement said.
It also aims to focus on developing advanced Special Forces skills of sniping, complex building intervention and mountain craft.
The exercise will feature vibrant cultural exchanges, including celebration of the Kyrgyz festival Nowruz to further cement friendship between the two nations.
'The exercise will provide an opportunity for both sides to fortify defence ties while addressing common concerns of international terrorism and extremism.
The exercise reaffirms the commitment of India and Kyrgyzstan to fostering peace stability, and security in the region," the statement further said.
KHANJAR XII, launched in 2011, has evolved into an annual training event reflecting the strategic relationship between the two nations and it was held in India last year. (end)
