KF-16 fighter jets accidentally release bombs on civilian town


(MENAFN) According to military officials and fire authorities, on Thursday, fifteen individuals sustained injuries when two Air Force KF-16 fighter aircrafts accidentally released eight air-to-surface grenades beyond a training area during live-fire exercises, this unprecedented error resulted in accidentally bombing a town full of civilians.

Officials reported that the bombing occurred in a village in Pocheon, approximately 40 kilometers north of Seoul, at about 10 a.m. The incident resulted in fifteen individuals, two soldiers and two foreigners among them, sustaining injuries ranging from minor to serious. Additionally, a church and seven buildings were ruined.

Fire officials stated that two civilian men were seriously injured and transported to the hospital, although their face and shoulder injuries are not considered fatal. They also mentioned that eight other individuals with minor injuries were taken to hospitals for medical care.

Authorities anticipate that the figure of wounded individuals will increase as more people seek medical care.

Roughly fifty local residents from the area have moved to a town hall located far from the bombing area.
